Joe Jackson - Night and day - 1982

Night and Day es el quinto álbum de estudio de Joe Jackson, editado en junio de 1982.Inspirado en la ciudad de New York y dedicado a ella, el título lo toma significativamente de una canción de Cole Porter, y musicalmente es un trabajo que marca una inflexión con respecto a la trayectoria previa del artista, con mucho swing y ritmos latinos.
Tanto en músicas como letras, Joe es un verdadero maestro.

REAL MEN

"Breaking Us in Two" también tuvo cierto suceso como single, y pese a tener ciertas similitudes con la melodía de "Day After Day" de Badfinger, no hubo quien reclamara ésto formalmente.Coincidencia o plagio, no lo sabemos.A Joe no le han faltado buenas ideas propias.Ni buena mano para instrumentos varios, como teclados, saxos, vibráfono...

BREAKING US IN TWO

El siguiente es el tema con el cual conocí a Joe, aunque lo hice casi al mismo tiempo que una canción anterior suya bien diferente, "I´m the man".Pero fue "Steppin´ Out", en principio, con su base rítmica programada y sus acordes dulces lo que me hizo interesarme por el artista y buscar con ganas el "Night and day" para escucharlo entero.Fue además un single de éxito que le supuso la nominación para los Grammy a álbum del año y vocalista masculino.

El álbum está dividido en un "night side" y un day side",  y en el primero los temas se presentan encadenados unos a otros mientras que en el siguiente las pistas están separadas.

Algo bastante frecuente en el artista son las letras con toques de cierto humor negro, como en éste salsero manifiesto sobre el excesivo cuidado de la salud ( "o todo lo contrario").
